Landing a Job When You Lack Work Experience

Tired of hearing during or after an interview that you cannot or did not get a job because you lack the experience?  Well, here is how to counteract this sentence and make yourself marketable.

MAKE SURE THAT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS MATCH THE REQUIREMENTS!  Here is how to identify them.

Highlight your strengths
Carefully evaluate your qualifications and skills.  Do due diligence and go over the job requirements several times. Scrutinize it, disect it and go over it with a fine tooth comb.

If you are lacking in the years of experience required, then try and identify any transferable skill that you may have that would compensate for this.

Highlight your unique skills in the application.  Make it stand out to enhance your marketability.

Showcase your softer side (immeasurable skills)
Not only is it important to have the necessary skills required for the job, but more importantly you should be the right fit for the job. This is not reaidly visible on your resume.

Your emotional quotient  (EQ) may have the final say and determine if you qualify.  People would rather work with someone who is pleasant and who they like, then a qualified person who they don't.  Take the EQ test and see how you measure.

More likable, more "hirable" so think of ways that you may improve on your EQ skills.

Social media
We are blessed with the technology age so utilize social media like LinkedIn, Twitter and Quora to reach like minded EQ thinkers and establish a community.

Have visible online presence. Make regular contributions to sites listed above. Showcase your expertise online with the hopes of meeting influencers in your field.  Start a blog.

Share links to your blog(s) when you apply for positions or use it to connect to people that will know you and your work.

Ping your contacts, arrange a meeting to showcase your skills and competencies to influence  them that you are suitable for the job you are seeking.  You may not land the job, but at least it will be a positive step in the right direction.

GOOD LUCK!
